Here's politicians trick every time.

Politician A has some good ideas which would lead to maybe you getting an extra £10 a week and your neighbour getting £20

Politician B has no good ideas but says he'll only take £10 off you but £20 off your neighbour.

Combined with mass media, the jealousy politicians drum up means we get Politician B who gives everyone a worse deal.
